A Forest Products Manufacturer Rooted in Sustainability: Domtar’s 2030 Vision
  • PublishedAugust 20, 2025

From forests to daily goods, forest products manufacturer Domtar is rooted in sustainability.

Imagine a world where the paper you write on, the packaging that protects your favorite products, and the lumber that frames your home are all part of a thoughtful approach to sustainability. Or maybe this world is already at our fingertips? Forest products maker Domtar’s everyday, essential products begin with responsibly sourced wood fiber (wood fiber sourced according to minimum requirements that prohibit illegal harvesting and deforestation while protecting biodiversity and Indigenous rights), then continue through an efficient manufacturing process to reach you for your most important everyday moments.

Why forest products matter

Forest products like printer paper, lumber for homes, hygiene products and packaging are integral to daily life and are all made possible by companies like Domtar, a forest products manufacturer owned by Jackson Wijaya. With nearly 14,000 employees across more than 60 North American locations, Domtar stands as a leading manufacturer, transforming responsibly sourced wood fiber into everyday essentials. In October 2024, Domtar unified its three legacy companies under the Domtar brand, marking a new era of growth and impact.

Domtar has been invited to join the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Leaders project, a series that profiles companies who support the 17 SDGs from the United Nations to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect the planet. It is being recognized for focusing on sustainability during the integration of its legacy companies, including this year’s launch of Domtar’s global sustainability policy, its 2030 Sustainability Strategy (built on specific SDGs), and its forthcoming 2024 sustainability report highlighting progress so far as the new Domtar.

The fiber for the future as a forest products manufacturer

As a forest products manufacturer, Domtar is highly focused on safeguarding forests. The company is committed to turning responsibly sourced wood fiber into everyday essential products, delivering high-quality and cost-effective options, like responsibly sourced paper and lumber, to meet and exceed customer needs globally.

Domtar’s 2030 Sustainability Strategy is the result of two years of engagement with employees, customers, suppliers, Indigenous Peoples, and community stakeholders. It centers on three pillars, Environmental Stewardship, Our People and Communities, and Responsible Business.

Innovating for a more sustainable tomorrow

Each pillar of Domtar’s Sustainability Strategy is broken down into four defined objectives, each with measurable targets through 2030. One of these objectives centers on innovation—an essential part of how the forest products industry, which supports more than 33 million jobs globally, continues to evolve. Domtar is committed to advancing sustainability through its products, processes and value chain, in part by significantly increasing the share of innovation-related investments that directly support its sustainability objectives.

Future updates to the strategy will continue to reflect the SDGs as a global call to action, reinforcing Domtar’s role as a responsible and innovative forest products maker. Learn more about Domtar’s sustainability journey at Domtar.com
